Privacy Policy

The short version: Your sermon notes and Bible study content never touch our servers. They live on your device and, if you choose, your own Google Drive. We collect limited, anonymized usage data to improve the app, and you can turn that off anytime. We may ask for your email address to send you product updates — you decide whether to share it.

VerseTap (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is built by Clarylife Global, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

  1. Your Notes and Bible Study Content

Your sermon notes, study entries, and library data are stored on your device only. They are never uploaded to VerseTap servers. We cannot read them, access them, or share them, because we do not have them.

If you enable Google Drive Backup, your notes are backed up directly to your own Google Drive account (see Section 3). They do not pass through or rest on any VerseTap-controlled server at any point.

  1. Information You May Choose to Share

VerseTap does not require an account to use. However, certain optional features involve sharing your email address with us.

A. App Lock PIN Recovery Email

When you set up a PIN to lock VerseTap, you have the option to provide a recovery email address. If you provide one:

  • It is stored securely in our database (Supabase, hosted in the EU) and locally on your device.
  • It is used exclusively to send you a one-time reset code if you forget your PIN.
  • Reset codes expire after 15 minutes and are stored only as a one-way hash — we cannot read them after they are generated.
  • Providing a recovery email is optional. You can set up a PIN without one by tapping “Skip for now.”

B. Product Updates and Account Registration

When you provide your email, for example during PIN setup, we may also register you as a VerseTap user. This registration records your email address, the platform you are using (Android, iOS, or web), and your consent. We use this information to send you product updates, notify you of new features, and communicate about the app.

  • This registration only happens when you actively provide your email address.
  • We do not sell your email address or share it with third parties for marketing.
  • You can ask us to delete your registration data at any time by emailing versetap.ng@gmail.com.
  1. Google Drive Backup (Optional)

If you choose to enable Cloud Backup, VerseTap requests access to your Google Drive.

  • Restricted access: We use the restricted scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file, which means we can only see, edit, or delete files that VerseTap itself created. We cannot access any other files in your Google Drive.
  • Data flow: Your backup file travels directly between your device and Google’s servers. We do not store, view, or process this data on our servers.
  • No third-party sharing: Your backup data is never shared with anyone.
  1. AI Verse Lookup

When you use the Verse Lookup feature, VerseTap first attempts to identify the Bible reference locally using an offline index stored on your device. If the reference cannot be resolved locally, the text you typed is sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini) as a fallback. This data is processed in real time and is not stored permanently or used to train AI models. Results are cached locally on your device for up to 90 days to reduce repeated lookups.

  1. Usage Analytics

We collect limited, anonymized usage data to understand how people use VerseTap and to improve the app over time. This is behavioral metadata only. It never includes your sermon notes, note titles, tags, or any content you write.

What we track: app opens, note creation and deletion events, Drive backup completions (including how many notes synced successfully), Bible verse lookups (including which translation you used), and Bible Browser opens. Each event also records the platform (Android, iOS, or web) and app version. No note content is ever included.

All usage data is anonymous. It is not linked to your email address or any other personal identifier, regardless of whether you have registered with us.

This data stays in VerseTap’s own Supabase database (see Section 6). We do not use any third-party analytics SDK, and this data is never sold or shared with third parties.

You can turn analytics off at any time in the Privacy Promise section of the app menu. Turning it off does not affect any other feature of the app.

  1. Data Storage and Security

User registration data (email, platform, consent) and usage analytics events are stored in Supabase, a managed database platform hosted in the EU (Ireland). PIN reset codes are stored only as SHA-256 hashes and expire after 15 minutes. We use Supabase’s service role access controls and do not expose raw database credentials to the client.

  1. Children’s Privacy

VerseTap is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

  1. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Privacy Policy when our data practices change. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page reflects when the most recent changes were made. Significant changes will be communicated via the in-app announcement system.
